Starship BeatSabre
A downloadable game for Windows
Warning: this game may not be suitable for people who suffer from motion sickness, have slowed reaction times, or some forms of colour blindness.
Created for PROD-223 Immersive Game Design at University of Canterbury, S1 2023. The project brief was to make a rhythm game based on Beat Saber, that encouraged lower body movement, using the HP Reverb heasets for development.
Duck, Step, or Bend to the side to steer your Ship past obstacles, Slice BeatBots with matching-coloured Batons, and try to Score a perfect S -Rank across Three Synthwave Tracks by HurricaneTurtle.

Each mission you'll begin with 250 hit points. Colliding with a BeatBot reduces your Shields by 1 HP; collisions with obstacles will set you back 15 HP each. Good piloting requires active movement to dodge, then slice, incoming foes - but taking a few hits is always acceptable. As long as you make it out in one piece, that's mission accomplished.
Special thanks to my teachers for the Beat Saber tutorials, and to:
- HurricaneTurtle
- Turbo Slicer 2 by That Joe Over There
- LowPoly Trees and Rocks by GreyRoad Studio
- Ghostly Hand Shader by Wolderado
- Car'Toon Cars by Pixtim
- Farland Skies by Borodar
As always, feedback is hugely appreciated! Semester two begins very soon, so updates are not guaranteed - but if you have are any issues please let me know!
